Mantic uttaïr, Anecdote about the Loss of a Child

A man unacquainted with spiritual things lost a child, the fruit of his heart, and this deprived him of patience, rest, and tranquillity. He followed the bier sorrowfully and, weeping in his agitation, said: “O dear child, who knew nothing of the world while thou didst exist! Thou hast left the world without having seen anything.”
A madman in love with God, who heard these words and saw what had happened, began to say: “He has seen the world a hundred times over.”
If thou wouldst carry the world away with thee, thou wilt die without having seen it. Thy life has passed in striving to see the world; but hast thou been able to find a remedy for thy pain? If thou dost not act without thy vile soul, thy precious spirit will be lost in the mire.
