Mantic uttaïr, The Miser

A fool had a coffer full of gold, which he left behind when he died. A year later, his son saw him in a dream in the shape of a mouse, both eyes full of tears, scurrying around the place where his gold was buried. His son said that he had questioned him, saying: “Why have you come here? Tell me.” The father replied: “I hid gold here; I come to see whether anyone has found it.” His son asked him: “Why are you in the shape of a mouse?” He said: “The heart in which love of gold has arisen takes this shape. Look at me, profit from what you see, and renounce gold, O my child!”
