Lesson 360

Breathe the scent of the wind over against their land.

Excerpt

Approach the dwelling of dear ones who have taken covenants—may clouds of incessant rain pour upon it!— And breathe the scent of the wind over against their land, in desire that the sweet airs may tell thee where they are.

✨ To meditate on today

According to Ibn Arabi, an Andalusian mystic, the poet approaches the dwelling of his departed loved ones, wishes that land a beneficent rain, and breathes the wind that comes from their country, hoping it will tell him where they are; these loved ones are for him an image of divine realities. Today, think of someone you love who is far away, and send them a blessing, as one wishes rain upon a beloved land.
