Lesson 317

Again, hope of the mercy of the Lord arose in his heart as an earnest of rejoicing.

Excerpt

This sad Faqir too put up his cries for aid, And bore off the ball of acceptance from the field. But at times he distrusted the efficacy of his prayers, On account of the delay in answering them. Again, hope of the mercy of the Lord Arose in his heart as an earnest of rejoicing. When he was hopeless and ceasing to pray in weariness he heard from God the word "Ascend!"

✨ To meditate on today

According to Rumi, a poor dervish (a “faqir”) sometimes doubted his prayers because the answer was delayed; then hope in God’s mercy rose again in his heart, and at the very moment he was growing weary, he heard God say to him: “Ascend!” Today, think of a prayer or a wish that seems not to be answered, and entrust it once more with confidence, without demanding a deadline.
