Lesson 258

He will surely look upon us at last with a gracious eye.

Excerpt

β€œWe have come here,” they replied, β€œto acknowledge the Simurgh as our king. The love we feel for Him has troubled our reason. For Him, we have lost our minds and our peace. It is long since we undertook our journey. We were then thousands, and only thirty of us have arrived at this sublime court. We have come from far away, hoping to gain access to this supreme majesty. How could this king disdain the hardship we have endured? Ah, no! He will surely look upon us at last with a gracious eye.”

✨ To meditate on today

According to Attar, the Persian Sufi poet, the thirty birds who survived the long journey to the Simorg, their king and an image of God, reach His court exhausted but trusting: the One they love will not disdain the hardship they have endured for Him. This evening, think back on an effort you made today out of love, even a small one, and entrust it to God with the same trust.
