Lesson 152

The mirror is the heart.

Excerpt

It is true that there is no eye capable of admiring this beauty, or of understanding it; one cannot love the Simorgh as one loves temporal beauties; but, out of an excess of goodness, He has made a mirror in which to reflect Himself. The mirror is the heart. Look into the heart, and there you will see His image.

✨ To meditate on today

According to Attar, the Simorgh, the king-bird whom the birds seek and who stands for God, has a beauty no eye can grasp; but out of goodness, He has made the human heart a mirror in which His image can be reflected. Today, take a moment to “wipe your mirror”: let go of a grudge or a needless agitation, then remain a few moments in silence, your heart turned toward God.
