Tukaram, Poem 3033

Delusion has beaten him sorely, yet there is
no scar upon his skin; pain of mind, however,
sets his hair on end. He can find no opportunity
to escape from its power; he cannot speak, he is
gagged. No help can reach him; he can find no
point of vantage to attack it from; no clue to track
it by. In his fear of it, he smears his body with
ashes; but it afflicts him with violent disorders.
Tuka says, Desire assaults all men in the rear; it
will not suffer them to cry to God.
