I tell you the rules to be observed in preaching:
let there be cymbals and dances to
hearts filled with love; honour with due attention
him who sings God's praises. Do not wriggle
about or lie on your side; he is a low wretch who
affects to despise the scene. Such too is he who
chews betel or holds his head up with a proud stiff
air, or winds his garment round him and looks
dignified. Such too is he who gathers up his dress
lest the dust soil it, or he who sits on a high seat
and thinks himself the equal of the preacher; let
him be taken to the stake to be executed. Such
too is he who bows not with folded hands as he
enters, or refuses to recognize men in high position
and pushes them aside. Tuka begs men not to
bring the faults with them to preaching but
to make God their debtor by offering Him faith.
