Tukaram, Poem 877

Desire and thirst and passion are seeds of dishonour; by destroying them a man makes himself worshipful. An unsteady man wins no honour, though he walks to the homes of others; it is hard to set one’s eyes on a man who is steady. Tuka says, I address nothing to others, for my words would be wasted; the wise alone will value my words.
