Tukaram, Poem 711

Merit consists in service to others, sin is injury done to them; there is no other way to gain anything. Truth is the true religion; observances are false, there is no other secret than this. Salvation consists in uttering His name; destruction in turning away from it. The society of the saints is paradise; the heedless and wanton man is hell himself. Tuka says, Our own gain and destruction lie clear before us; let each do as he chooses.
