Tukaram, Poem 76

Why should I pursue glory or pride or popular honour? Show me Thy feet, O God! Let not thy servant turn aside to vanity. Grandeur will be a burden on my soul; it will lead me away from Thy feet. What do mankind know about the faith of the heart? They honour each other according to outward appearances. Tuka says, I find adversity sweet, if it leads me to Thy feet.
