Lesson 338

Man's progress depends upon the emancipation of the heart.

Excerpt

Man's progress depends upon the emancipation of the heart. All else is incidental. The heart is the seat of selfishness in all its forms. The head may work out the most lucid and elaborate of schemes for salvation from misery: may have an explanation for itself of every phenomenon in the universe, yet the heart may remain dark and unilluminated by any proportionate ray of either Love or Wisdom.

โœจ To meditate on today

According to the commentary on the Narada Bhakti Sutra, an Indian treatise on the love of God, what matters is not to understand everything with the head, but to free the heart from selfishness so that it opens to Love and Wisdom. Today, when facing a decision, ask yourself not only "what is logical?" but also "what is loving?", and let your heart light up your choice.
