Lesson 314

There is nothing apart from the Self.

Excerpt

If you see the Self - pure and simple - it is nivritti; if you see the Self with the world, it is pravritti. In other words, inward- turned mind (antarmukhi manas) is nivritti; outward-going mind (bahirmukhi manas) is pravritti. Anyway, there is nothing apart from the Self. Both are the same.

✨ To meditate on today

According to Ramana Maharshi, whether your attention turns inward (nivritti, the path of withdrawal) or toward the world (pravritti, the path of action), nothing is ever separate from the Self, the deep awareness that is your true nature. Today, in the middle of an ordinary activity — cooking, walking, working — pause for a moment to feel that the same quiet presence is there, in action as in silence.
