Lesson 26

One’s happiness is within; the love is of the Self only.

Excerpt

The Upanishad says that all are dear because the Self is beloved of all. One’s happiness is within; the love is of the Self only. It is only within; do not think it to be without: then differentiation ceases to operate.

✨ To meditate on today

According to Ramana Maharshi, who quotes an Upanishad, all beings are dear to us because the Self, our deepest being, is beloved of all: happiness and love do not come from outside but from this Self present in everyone, and when we recognise it, what separates us from others falls away. Today, when you feel affection for someone, notice that it springs from within you, and let it gently extend to one more person.
