God, on being worshipped, bestows steadiness in devotion which leads to surrender. On the devotee surrendering, God shows His mercy by manifesting as the Guru. The Guru, otherwise God, guides the devotee, saying that God is in you and He is the Self.

According to Ramana Maharshi, when we surrender to God, He comes to guide us in His mercy, in the form of a Guru, a master, who reminds us that God is within us. When a difficulty feels heavy today, open yourself to the help that comes: a word, a person, a sign.
