Lesson 294

A servant cannot serve two masters.

Excerpt

A person cannot mount two horses or draw two bows. And a servant cannot serve two masters, for he would honor one and offend the other. No one drinks old wine and wishes at once to drink young wine. One does not pour young wine into old wineskins, for they might burst, and one does not pour old wine into new wineskins, for it might spoil. One does not sew an old patch onto a new garment, for it would create a tear.

โœจ To meditate on today

According to the Gospel of Thomas, an ancient collection of sayings attributed to Jesus, we cannot do everything at once or live with a divided heart: just as no one rides two horses at the same time, it is good to give our whole heart to what truly matters, and to give each new thing the place that suits it. Today, choose one important thing and do it fully, without scattering yourself, putting your whole heart into it.
