Lesson 23

Brightness like that of the noonday, shall arise to thee at evening: and when thou shalt think thyself consumed, thou shalt rise as the day star.

Excerpt

Thou shalt also forget misery, and remember it only as waters that are passed away. And brightness like that of the noonday, shall arise to thee at evening: and when thou shalt think thyself consumed, thou shalt rise as the day star. And thou shalt have confidence, hope being set before thee, and being buried thou shalt sleep secure. Thou shalt rest, and there shall be none to make thee afraid: and many shall entreat thy face.

โœจ To meditate on today

According to the Book of Job, Zophar, one of the friends who came to comfort Job, promises him that by turning to God he will forget his sufferings like waters that have passed away, and that his darkness will turn into dawn. Today, think of a sorrow still living in you and, without denying it, look at it as water flowing past; then, this evening, write down one small glimmer from your day that announces the dawn.
