Lesson 251

I am now a son of the Buddha.

Excerpt

And when the sage, with love, has devoutly taken possession of the thought of Bodhi, he exalts this thought to ensure its future growth, preservation, purity, and development: Today my birth is fruitful, and I profit by my human condition; today I am born into the family of the Buddha: I am now a son of the Buddha.

✨ To meditate on today

According to Śāntideva in the Bodhicaryâvatâra, whoever lovingly welcomes the thought of Bodhi, the vow to awaken for the good of all beings, feels that his life becomes fruitful, as if he were born into the family of the Buddha. Today, on waking or at midday, form this vow within you: “May what I do today also serve the good of others,” then do one act that honours it.
