Lesson 128

How wonderful a thing is it, and how marvellous, that those who have gone forth out of the world should pass their time in a state of mind so calm!

Excerpt

Then thought that man: “How wonderful a thing is it, and how marvellous, that those who have gone forth out of the world should pass their time in a state of mind so calm! So much so that a man though being both conscious and awake, neither sees, nor hears the sound of five hundred carts passing by, one after the other, and each close to him.”

✨ To meditate on today

According to the Mahāparinibbāna Sutta, a traveller marvels at a sage so deeply recollected that he neither saw nor heard five hundred carts passing close by him. Today, in the midst of noise (traffic, conversations, screens), choose a moment to stay calm within, letting what passes go by without clinging to it.
