Lesson 351
Lesson 351

My sinless brother is my guide to peace. My sinful brother is my guide to pain. And which I choose to see I will behold.

Who is my brother but Your holy Son? And if I see him sinful, I proclaim myself a sinner; not a Son of God; alone and friendless in a fearful world. Yet this perception is a choice I make, and can relinquish. I can also see my brother sinless, as Your holy Son. And with this choice I see my sinlessness, my everlasting Comforter and Friend beside me, and my way secure and clear. Choose, then, for me, my Father, through Your Voice. For He alone gives judgement in Your Name.

✨ Summary & practice

Your sinless brother is your guide to peace, choose to see him that way.

Who is your brother, if not the holy Son of God? If you see him as sinful, you proclaim yourself sinful and not God’s Son, alone and friendless in a frightening world. But this perception is a choice you make, and one you can release. You can also see your brother sinless, as the holy Son of God. This choice lets you see your own innocence, your eternal Comforter and Friend beside you, and your path clear and sure.

The powerful teaching is that how you see your brother determines how you see yourself. You cannot see a brother as sinful without seeing yourself as sinful. You cannot see him as innocent without seeing yourself as innocent. For vision is one: it applies to all or to none. Choosing to see your brother sinless is choosing to see yourself sinless. It is choosing peace over pain.

This lesson is fundamental to the entire teaching on relationships. Previous lessons showed you that your brothers are your saviors, that their gifts are your gifts. Here, you understand why: they are your mirror. By seeing innocence in them, you activate it in yourself. The choice is clear and presents itself every instant. Every brother you meet is an opportunity to choose between peace and pain. Choose peace by seeing his innocence.

To practice this lesson, for every person you meet today, make the deliberate choice to see their innocence. Even if their behavior displeases you, look beyond behavior to the Son of God they are. Say in your heart: 'You are sinless, and in you I see my own innocence.' You will see the relationship transform. The person before you will become softer, or at least your perception of them will change. And you yourself will feel more at peace.

Your brother is your mirror. See him sinless, and you will see yourself sinless. Choose peace.
