Lesson 344
Lesson 344

Today I learn the law of love; that what I give my brother is my gift to me.

I give my brother is my gift to me. This is Your law, my Father, not my own. I did not understand what giving means, and thought to save what I desired for myself alone. And as I looked upon the treasure that I thought I had, I found an empty place where nothing ever was, or is or will be. Who can share a dream? And what can an illusion offer me? Yet he whom I forgive will give me gifts beyond the worth of anything on earth. Let my forgiven brothers fill my store with Heaven's treasures, which alone are real. Thus is the law of love fulfilled. And thus Your Son arises and returns to You.

How near we are to one another, as we go to God. How near is He to us. How close the ending of the dream of sin, and the redemption of the Son of God.

✨ Summary & practice

What you give your brother is the gift you give yourself, the law of love.

Today you learn the law of love: what you give your brother is exactly the gift you give yourself. You did not understand what giving means; you thought you had to keep for yourself what you desired. But when you looked at the treasure you thought you had, you found only emptiness. No one can share a dream, and an illusion offers nothing. The one to whom you offer forgiveness gives you gifts far beyond earthly value.

The essential teaching is that the law of love is universal and works exactly opposite to the world’s laws. The world says: give and you will lose. Love says: give and you will gain. The world says: hold on and you will have. Love says: hold on and you will lose. What you give with love, you receive multiplied. What you withhold in fear, you lose. The forgiven brothers fill your storehouse with the only real treasures. In giving, you grow rich.

This lesson completes the cycle on giving and receiving from lessons 315–316. You have learned that your brothers’ gifts are yours and your gifts are your own. Here, you integrate this truth as a universal law, the law of love. Previous lessons prepared you to understand this law by showing that separation is an illusion and unity is reality. In unity, giving and receiving are one. By fulfilling this law, the Son awakens and returns to God.

To practice the law of love today, seek to give without expecting return. Offer a sincere compliment, practical help, or attentive listening. Observe what happens within you when you give. You will feel an expansion, a joy, a warmth. This is the gift you give yourself. Then, be watchful: you may receive, perhaps in unexpected ways or forms, exactly what you need. This is the law of love in action.

In giving to your brother, you give to yourself. This is the law of love. So give generously today.
