No-one desires pain. But he can think that pain is pleasure. No-one would avoid his happiness. But he can think that joy is painful, threatening and dangerous. Everyone will receive what he requests. But he can be confused indeed about the things he wants; the state he would attain. What can he then request that he would want when he receives it? He has asked for what will frighten him, and bring him suffering. Let us resolve today to ask for what we really want, and only this, that we may spend this day in fearlessness, without confusing pain with joy, or fear with love.
Father, this is Your day. It is a day in which I would do nothing by myself, but hear Your Voice in everything I do; requesting only what You offer me, accepting only Thoughts You share with me.
You will receive everything you ask for, then ask wisely.
No one truly desires pain. Yet one may think that pain is pleasure. No one avoids their happiness. Yet one may think that joy is painful and dangerous. Everyone receives what they ask for, but one may be mistaken about what they truly want. Many ask for what frightens them and brings them suffering. Today, be determined to ask only for what you truly desire, and nothing else.
The deeper teaching is that the law of the universe is simple: you receive what you ask for. But the problem is that you do not always know what you are truly asking for. Sometimes you ask for peace outwardly, but inwardly you ask for war, because you believe war will protect you. Sometimes you ask for love, but you ask for fear, because love seems too vulnerable. The work of these lessons is to purify your desire so that you ask for what you truly want.
This lesson warns you against unconscious desires. You may believe you want one thing while truly wanting another. Previous lessons have helped you purify your perception and align your will with God’s. Now, you apply this purification to your requests. By asking only for what God offers, by accepting only the Thoughts He shares with you, you ensure that you ask for what is truly good for you.
In practice, today, before asking for anything, take a moment to connect with God. Say: “Father, this is Your day. I want nothing for myself. Guide my requests.” Then ask only for what you feel is in harmony with His Will. You will find your requests becoming simpler, purer. And you will receive exactly what you need, not what the ego thinks it wants, but what your heart truly desires.
You receive everything you ask for. Purify your requests today, and you will receive the peace you truly seek.
