Hafiz, ode 12

Oh! cup-bearer! pour, and make our cup shine with the radiance of wine. Singer! continue thy refrain, for the delights of this world answer to our desires.
We have seen, reflected in the cup, the image of the beloved object; know this, you who are ignorant of the delights of our constant libations!
Whatever the grace, the delicate coquetries, the loving gestures of these tall and beautiful creatures, they are eclipsed as soon as my beloved appears, with her slender figure like that of a cypress, and her slow, graceful gait.
He whose life love has bestowed shall never die. That is why the eternity of our existence is inscribed on the pages of the universe.
I greatly fear that, on the day of the Last Judgment, the sheikh’s lawful bread will have no merit over our unlawful drink.
O Zephyr, if thou shouldst pass through Elysium, where our friends are gathered, forget not our sweetheart; and, presenting her with our greetings, say to her:
Why, from this very moment and of our own free will, forget us thus? Soon enough will come the time when thou wilt forget even our name.
The effect of the fumes of wine becomes the languishing eyes of our ravishing Beloved. Therein lies the reason why we were predestined to that sweet intoxication in which we now indulge.
This celestial plain, like a boundless sea, and this crescent moon which, like a ship, seems to sail upon the waves, are flooded with the bounty of our Haji Qawam.
Give free rein to thy tears, O Hafiz; let these pearly drops flow. It may be that, lured by such bait, the compassionate bird that brings lovers together will come and be caught in our nets!
