Hafiz, ode 10

Who will undertake to carry my plea to my queen, and dare to say to her: for the sake of Thy sovereignty, do not drive this poor beggar far from Thy sight?
I constantly seek refuge in God from my rivals, hoping that Chouhab, with his keen arrow, will come to the aid of poor Souha.
Thou hast but to reveal Thy fair face to set every heart aflame! But what profit, tell me, canst Thou gain by acting thus without restraint?
If Thy dark brows suggest to Thee the thought of my death, beware, O ravishing beauty, of their treacherous counsels, and put an end to Thy errors.
I spend all my nights hoping that the morning zephyr will bring me one of those tidings which, scented with the perfume of love, come to gladden the heart of the waiting friend!
For God’s sake, pour a draught of wine for Hafiz, he who rises so early, that his morning prayer may have some favourable effect.
