Tukaram, Poem 3544

No creature born into the world stays there
long; death sits close beside his pillow.
Look at the mouse,—the cat carries him off; so,
too, does death carry off mankind. Look at the
kid in the butcher’s house; how can a cow continue
alive with one who sells beef? Tuka says, Draw
some profit from time; the passing hour will not
come back.
