Tukaram, Poem 3463

We should not form many projects in all sorts of directions. When a man is not head of a village or a district, if he takes on himself the office of a village-accountant—well, you need not go far to look for sin; if you want to see it, you will find it with him. Another man takes up the collection of tolls; sin is always at home with him. The sale of cows, buffaloes, and ghee—those who carry it on are rogues. Observe, says Tuka, there is no room for merit in these trades.
