Tukaram, Poem 3367

Should I be beaten by mankind, I would set myself far from the world; then, in my misery, I would slowly remember God.
Should dishonour overtake me, should misfortune, ’twould be well.
The best thing that can happen to us, says Tuka, is that our dignity should perish.
