We heard long ago that this befell our forefathers; O consort of Shri, Thou didst make them Thy servants and set them free from all anxious care. Why dost thou pursue us thus, why is it even now Thou hast not ceased; how long wilt Thou try us? We have a quarrel with Thee from life to life; why dost Thou keep up the same pretence? How is it, says Tuka’s brother, Thou art become so blind? One who eats not cannot bear to see one who eats.
