Tukaram, Poem 2590

What avails it to purify the outside when the mind within is foul, filled, rusted with the rust of lifelong untruth? Give up your trade in pretences; you yourself must testify to your own heart. You do not deliberate when you fill your body with guilt; why do you go groping to try the cleanliness of this spot or that? The earth is always clean. Put away lust and anger, this is the purity you need. Tuki says, Wind up your tricks and pretences.
