Tukaram, Poem 2495

The face of pride is black; it drags men away to darkness. It robs them of their gains full swiftly and fills their mouths with dust. Shame overtakes them, their purposes are ruined. Tuka says. Through their own vile practices they fall into contempt.
Though falsehood should secure you a marriage, or help you to serve others, yet doubtless the bar will fall into hell; I will prove the same. Narayana compelled Dharmaraja to utter a falsehood: he lost his thumb through that action. Tuka says, Beware; you will suffer for the wicked schemes of your heart.
