Tukaram, Poem 2187

People are busied in pleasing themselves
and others but when the end of death
arrives there is none of them that can help you.
When your strength fails and your nose and eyes
begin to run, your wife and children forsake you!
Your wife says “Old fool! I wish he were dead.
He soils the house with spitting about it.” There
will be no one on my side then, save thee, O Bearer
of the Wheel!
