Tukaram, Poem 2042

A pole in a gymnasium should first be shaken well and firmly fixed in its place. Afterwards any feats performed by its aid will pass off successfully. The soul likewise must learn to bear pain and pleasure, it must not break down in joy or sorrow. Tuka says. The soul has first to perish and then to live.
