Paiks occupy ranks high and low according as they are divided into strong and feeble. Some are intent on their master’s service, others are worthless and self-seeking. He who makes a display when there is no need, he bears the high name of a paik in vain. If you reckon all together, there are many high and low, but brave and valiant few among them. Tuka says. Their master knows how to honour them; he treats a paik according to the worth he has seen in him.
