Tukaram, Poem 973

The embodied gods could not overcome the
world; how can we feeble creatures stand
against it? You will soon be ensnared by pleasures,
if once they make you their victim. I cannot
conceive when they will set you free. You will
exhaust yourself with carrying this burden—I too
carry it; in vain do we renounce it. Tuka says,
How is it you are not ashamed of it? The saints
have secured the Controller of the senses.
