Tukaram, Poem 829

What will it avail to live in a glen or a forest, if inward peace be absent? But are those few that have already gone there, and what have they gained? If you enter the forest, you will fall into pits; what will you gain by that? What good will ashes, mere ashes, do, if the inward parts be impure? The pious deeds of every class or station vanish, when men grow weary of them. Tuka says, These things are all snares; give up your trust in them, then it will be well with you.
