Tukaram, Poem 694

Act as you speak; or you disgrace God. What would sweet food be like without salt? Like a lifeless corpse dressed out with ornaments. The actor’s make-up is disgraced without appropriate action; a fine shape is worthless without solid qualities. To perform the ceremonies of wedlock without a bride and bridegroom would be an idle waste of money. Tuka says, So it is in my case, so long as I see not the spirit of love within me.
