Tukaram, Poem 326

We are subject to the sum of their past; it
brings them pleasure or pain. By contact
with one who is bleeding we sully ourselves. It is
from the bait that disaster proceeds; by shunning
that we secure happiness. Tuka says, My soul
has taken fright, it has severed itself from everything.
