Tukaram, Poem 111

“Why do people come to our house? Have
they not their own business to attend
to?” “Through God the whole world has become
a part of me; what does it cost you to give a gentle
answer? For love’s sake people come to see me
who could not be appeased by respectful entreaties.”
Tuka says, This vile woman can find no pleasure in
a jewel; she runs after people like a mad dog.
