Tukaram, Poem 69

We dwellers in Vaikuntha have come for this purpose, to prove by our faith the words of the Rishis. We will sweep clean the paths of the saints, for weeds have choked up the world. We will take the leavings of the saints’ meals. The ancient forms have lost their meaning, for idle skill in words has ruined them. Men’s minds are greedy of pleasure; the way of salvation has vanished; we will beat a drum in the name of devotion. We will appal Time and Death. Tuka says, Raise a joyful shout of acclamation.
