Psalms, chapter 22

1. A psalm for David. The Lord ruleth me: and I shall want nothing.
2. He hath set me in a place of pasture. He hath brought me up, on the water of refreshment:
3. He hath converted my soul. He hath led me on the paths of justice, for His own name’s sake.
4. For though I should walk in the midst of the shadow of death, I will fear no evils, for Thou art with me. Thy rod and Thy staff, they have comforted me.
5. Thou hast prepared a table before me against them that afflict me. Thou hast anointed my head with oil; and my chalice which inebriateth me, how goodly is it!
6. And Thy mercy will follow me all the days of my life. And that I may dwell in the house of the Lord unto length of days.
10. Yes, it is Thou Who didst draw me from my mother’s womb,
Who gavest me confidence at my mother’s breasts.
11. From my birth I was abandoned to Thee;
from my mother’s womb, Thou art my God.
12. Be not far from me, for anguish is near,
for none comes to my aid.
13. Many bulls surround me,
the mighty ones of Basan encompass me.
14. They open their mouths against me,
like a lion that rends and roars.
15. I am like water poured out,
and all my bones are disjointed;
my heart is like wax,
it melts within my bowels.
16. My strength is dried up like a potsherd,
and my tongue cleaves to my palate;
Thou layest me in the dust of death.
17. For dogs surround me,
a band of evildoers encircles me;
they have pierced my hands and my feet,
18. I could count all my bones.
They watch me, they gaze upon me;
19. they divide my garments among them,
they cast lots for my tunic.
20. But Thou, Yahweh, be not far away!
Thou who art my strength, come quickly to my help!
21. Deliver my soul from the sword,
my life from the power of the dog!
22. Save me from the lion’s mouth,
deliver me from the horns of the wild ox!
23. Then will I declare Thy name to my brethren,
in the midst of the assembly will I praise Thee:
24. “You who fear Yahweh, praise Him!
All you seed of Jacob, glorify Him!
Revere Him, all you seed of Israel!
25. For He hath not despised, He hath not rejected the suffering of the afflicted,
He hath not hidden His face from him,
and when the afflicted cried unto Him, He heard.”
26. Through Thee my hymn shall resound in the great assembly,
I will pay my vows in the presence of those who fear Thee.
27. The afflicted shall eat and be satisfied;
they who seek Yahweh shall praise Him.
May Your heart revive for ever!
28. All the ends of the earth
shall remember and turn unto Yahweh,
and all the families of the nations
shall bow down before His face.
29. For the dominion belongs to Yahweh;
He ruleth over the nations.
30. The mighty of the earth shall eat and bow down;
before Him shall bow all who descend to the dust,
those who cannot prolong their life.
31. Their posterity shall serve Him;
the Lord shall be spoken of to the coming generation.
32. They shall come and declare His righteousness;
to a people yet to be born they shall tell what He hath done.
