Affections to follow the examination.
After having gently considered each point of the examination, and seen where you stand, you will proceed to the affections as follows:
Thank God for whatever little amendment you may have found in your life since your resolution, and acknowledge that it is His sole mercy that has wrought it in you and for you.
Humble yourself deeply before God, acknowledging that if you have not made much progress, it is your own fault; because you have not faithfully, courageously, and steadfastly responded to the inspirations, the movements, and the lights with which He has favored you in prayer and elsewhere.
Promise Him that you will praise Him forever for the graces He has bestowed upon you, and which have wrought this little amendment in you.
Ask Him forgiveness for the infidelity and disloyalty with which you have responded to His goodness.
Offer Him your heart, that He may become its absolute master.
Beseech Him to make you perfectly faithful.
Invoke the saints, the Blessed Virgin, your angel, your patron saint, Saint Joseph, and others in like manner.
